Sant Mat is as much Western as Eastern. "The Great Ones are initiated by God Himself, and they prove their initiations not by their claims, but in their works." (Hazrat Inayat Khan): *CLICK to read this document* Western Plagiarisms of India's Sant Mat Tradition: "You have to learn to get up from the table when love is no longer being served." (Nina Simone) "In Sant Mat all Masters have decried killing and meat-eating." (Sant Tulsi Sahib) "Those who take up the practices concerning the lower centers in the body, do take meat – the Mohammedans and people of other religions also. But those who are anxious to rise above body-consciousnes and go into the Beyond have of necessity to eschew all that. This is the Path I have put before you. Liberation or salvation is something which starts only when you rise above body-consciousness. For that reason, vegetarianism is the first essential." (Sant Kirpal Singh, The Night is a Jungle, Sant Bani Books) A Western Master of the Sound Current by the name of Pythagoras once said, "Our Earth has abundance of such pure and harmless foods and there is no need for us to partake of meals for which blood has to be shed and innocent life sacrificed." What difference does it make? Read the Book of Compassion: *CLICK* Western Plagiarisms of India's Sant Mat Tradition: Vegetarian Diet and Sant Mat: In many cultures we often see this desire to mainstream or alter the message of masters and messiahs. Buddha said, "Meat eating I have not permitted to anyone, I do not permit and will not permit", and...."The eating of meat extinguishes the seed of great compassion." Yet a few short years after the Buddha other forms of Buddhism came along that were pro-meat and composed their own sutras. Like the Essenes, Jesus, his family, and the original followers were also vegetarians and opposed to all sacrifice of animals in the Jewish temple. "Now beware in yourselves that your hearts do not become heavy with the eating of flesh and with the intoxication of wine and with the anxiety of the world, and that day come up upon you suddenly; for as a snare it will come upon all them that sit on the surface of the earth." (Jesus) In Christianity the vegetarian tradition of the original Aramaic-speaking Jesus Movement was soon overshadowed by Paul's group of Roman converts with their pro-meat gospels, and 'fishes' got added to the 'loaves' in Second Century manuscripts. In Sant Mat there is a highly instructive parallel. Kirpal Singh's first visit to the US was in 1955. Paul Twitchell was sitting in the audience, even asked a few questions, and a decade later here comes his Eckankar publications with pro-meat "light and sound" teachings – a wonderful contemporary example of how pro-meat-eating "sutras" and "gospels" get created in response to a new spiritual movement touching a society. Article: Evidence that Jesus and the Original Aramaic Christians Were Vegetarians. Certain American new age "light and sound groups" sometimes attempt to make propaganda by citing passages from the New Testament about eating meat. They argue that, according to their understanding, Jesus ate meat and therefore we "should" eat meat too. This outdated Sunday School logic is dealt with rather thoroughly: *CLICK to read this document* Western Plagiarisms of India's Sant Mat Tradition: At the Sant Mat Fellowship Links Page, scroll down near the bottom for "WESTERN PLAGIARISMS OF INDIA'S SANT MAT TRADITION." There are many vegetarian passages preserved in the Sikh Scriptures (Adi Granth, Shri Guru Granth Sahib) and related Sikh texts — quotes from Guru Nanak, Kabir, Guru Arjan Dev, Guru Gobind Singh and others. I've also included quotes from Bhai Gurdaas Ji and a Persian historian and scholar of comparative religion who wrote about Guru Nanak and the early Sikhs — how the original disciples were all vegetarians: *CLICK* The Classic Nirguna Bhakti Sants of India Krishna, Bhagavad Gita: The Song Of God, With Sanskrit Text and English Translation – PDF File: *CLICK* Narada Bhakti Sutras – The Way or Yoga of Divine Love, 84 Sutras on the Gospel of Love by Narada Muni: *CLICK* Narada Bhakti Sutras – Translation by Chester Messenger: *CLICK* Narada Bhakti Sutras – Narada's Aphorisms on Bhakti, Edited By Y. Sant History: Article: The Opposite of "Not One Of Us" is "We Are All One": In terms of Sant Mat history, there has never been a time during the last several centuries when there was "only one" Sant Satguru operating in the world. The reality is there have been multiple lineages of spiritual Masters contemporary with one another since at least the time of Kabir and Guru Nanak in the 14th century. Both Guru Kabir and Guru Nanak were founding gurus who appointed successors. These are guru lineages now spanning many generations. Generally speaking, we have the various Sikh Gurus in one line, and the successors and devotees of Guru Kabir in another. Of course, it's much more complicated than this, with the formation of many Nanak and Kabir Panths and sects over the centuries: *CLICK* Sant Dariya Sahib of Bihar, a Towering Figure in Sant Mat History and Great Spiritual Master Just Before the Time of Sant Tulsi Sahib of Hathras and Radhasoami: *CLICK* Sant History: Article: On the Spiritual Term "Sant Mat" Coined by Sant Tulsi Sahib of Hathras During the 19th Century: *CLICK* Sant History: Article: Who Was Tulsi Sahib's Guru? Countless are the impious who live on unwholesome food." (Guru Nanak, Jap Ji, Guru Granth Sahib Ji, 4) "You kill living beings, and call it a righteous action. Tell me, brother, what would you call an unrighteous action? You call yourself the excellent sage; then whom would you call a butcher?" (Guru Granth Sahib Ji, 1103). "Kabeer says, the dinner of beans and rice is excellent when flavored with salt. Who would cut throats to have meat with his bread?" (Guru Granth Sahib Ji, 1374) "Kabeer: for those who consume marijuana, fish and wine, no matter what pilgrimages, fasts and rituals they follow, they will all be consigned to hell". (Guru Granth Sahib Ji, 1377). "One who does not steal, commit adultery, slander anyone, gamble, eat meat or drink wine will be liberated in this very life (i.e. Jeewan Mukt)". Like a goblin or a beast, they kill and eat the forbidden carcasses of meat. Control your urges, or else you will be thrown into the tortures of hell." (Guru Arjan Dev, Guru Granth Sahib Ji, 723). Bhai Gurdaas Ji said: "They eat meat by cutting throats, what will their own condition be?" (Vaar 24, Pauree 17) "To take what rightfully belongs to another, is like a Muslim eating pork, or a Hindu eating beef. Our Guru, our Spiritual Guide, stands by us if we do not eat those carcasses. By mere talk, people do not earn Liberation. Salvation only comes from the practice of truth. By adding spices to forbidden foods, they are not made acceptable. O Nanak, from false talk, only falsehood is obtained". (Guru Nanak Dev Ji, Guru Granth Sahib Ji, 141) "You kill living beings, and call it a righteous action. Tell me, brother, what would you call an unrighteous action? You call yourself the excellent sage; then whom would you call a butcher?" (Guru Granth Sahib Ji, 1103). "You keep your fasts to please Allah, while you murder other beings for pleasure. You look after your own interests, and so not see the interests of others. What good is your word? O Qazi, the One Lord is within you, but you do not think or contemplation on Him. You do not care for others, you are mad about religion, this is why your life is wasting away." In other words, they were also studying the scriptures of other religions and mystical movements of their day..... Kirpal Singh was a prolific writer, publishing scores of books over the years, quoting from most every world scripture, mystic, poet, philosopher, and great Master that has ever existed spanning the centuries, very much embodying this same curiosity and inclusive universal spirituality we find present in the Nag Hammadi Library of Egypt.
