The goddess Sharada is said to have manifested herself to him, here, after severe penance by him, to confer upon him his yagnopaveetham, an event that was commemorated in the temple of Sharada Peeth in the town| Rishi/Sage Kashyapa is Originator of Kashmir| जो मामा को बड़ा मानता है उसके लिए शांडिल्य कश्यप से छोटे और जो भांजे को बड़ा मानता है उसके लिए शांडिल्य कश्यप से बड़े( कश्यप ऋषि ही दशरथ और वशुदेव के रूप में अवतार लिए थे विष्णु के आह्वान पर उनका पिता बनने के लिए अतः कुछ लोग भ्रान्ति फैलाते हैं की दशरथ के बहन का विवाह वशिष्ठ से हुआ था)। ------गर्ग स्वयं भारद्वाज की शिष्य परम्परा के पुत्र हुए थे और भारद्वाज स्वयं बाल्मीकि के शिष्य और यही बाल्मीकि कश्यप के पुत्र वरुणदेव के पुत्र थे जो वन गमन किये थे किंचित कारणों से अतः गर्ग ऋषि भी कश्यप से सम्बंधित है और कश्यप कुल की शिष्य परम्परा में आते हैं। ---------अतः गर्ग, गौतम और शांडिल्य की श्रेणी होते हुए भी गौतम सप्तर्षि में आते हैं न की गर्ग और शांडिल्य की तरह व्युत्पन है और इस प्रकार कश्यप से श्रेष्ठ और पूज्य क्रमशः गौतम और वशिष्ठ ही हुए और इस प्रकार अन्य चार सप्तर्षियों या सनातन गोत्रियों के लिए तथा व्युत्पन गोत्रियों के लिए भी गौतम और वशिष्ठ श्रेष्ठ हुए लेकिन उनके लिए गर्ग, गौतम और शांडिल्य का क्रम विशेष माने रखता है शूर्यवंश/इक्शाकुवंश/रघुवंश/रामकुल में रावण जैसे ब्राह्मणकुल का नाश काने के उपरांत उनके अश्वमेध यज्ञ में शामिल होने और खान-पान करने के कारन। Sandilya (Rishi): Śāṇḍilya (Sanskrit: शाण्डिल्य) was the name of at least two prominent rishis. One of the rishis was the progenitor of the Sandilya gotra. The name was derived from the Sanskrit words śaṇ, full and dilam, the moon, with the derivative ya added, meaning the one of the full moon, thereby implying a priest or a descendant of the Moon God. Progenitor of Sandilya Gotra :----One rishi was a son of the sage Vashistha and grandson(dauther's son) of the rishi Kashyapa, and the founder of the Śāṇḍilya gotra. Brihadaranyaka Upanishad states that he was a disciple of Vaatsya rishi. His other Acharyas include Kaushika, Gautama Maharishi, Kaishorya Kaapya, Vatsya Vaijavap, and Kushri. His disciples include Kaudinya, Agnivesa, Vatsya Vamakakshayan, Vaishthapureya, and Bharadwaj. He was also the composer of the Śāṇḍilya Upanishad.[3] According to the Bhagavata Purana, he was instrumental in settling certain metaphysical doubts of King Parikshit of Hastinapura and King Vajra of Dwaraka.
